More History Facts and Timeless Quotes

Bo Brady and Hope Williams met in 1983 when Bo returned to Salem from the Merchant Marines and Hope returned from boarding school. Though it took time for Hope to warm up to Bo, by the end of the year they were in love.
In 1985 Bo and Hope went to England with Shane Donovan to stop an international terrorist known as the Dragon. When Bo and Hope managed to capture the Dragon, the Queen of England rewarded them with a wedding. On May 23, 1985 in Saint Mary's Church in the Coswolds, Bo and Hope were married.
In 1986 Bo learned that his mother, Caroline Brady, had an affair with Victor Kiriakis years ago which conceived Bo. Caroline and Victor agreed to keep the truth a secret, and even after Bo learned the truth they continued to keep the truth from Shawn Brady, the man who raised Bo. On April 6, 1987 Shawn Douglas Brady was born. Bo did not want his son involved with Victor, so soon after his birth Bo bought "The Fancy Face" and he and Hope left to sail around the world.
Bo and Hope lived in Europe for some time and remained on the run from Victor, who was desperate to find his son. Bo and Hope eventually returned to Salem in 1990. That summer, Ernesto Toscano, an old enemy of Victor Kiriakis', planned a cruise to recover his wife's missing diary, which he suspected Victor of having, and to get revenge on his many enemies, including Bo Brady. Ernesto blew up his cruise ship hoping to kill all on board, but the citizens of Salem escaped and made it to an island nearby. On the island, Ernesto kidnapped Hope and held her prisoner. Everyone was lured to a cave where Ernesto held himself and Hope in a cage that was suspended above a vat of acid. Unfortunately and explosion occurred which sent the cage crashing down into the vat of acid. Both Ernesto and Hope vanished and were declared dead after hours of searching the island failed to locate any trace of them.
Bo grieved the loss of Hope and found love again with Carly Manning, and later with Billie Reed, who he planned to marry. Bo also turned his life around and joined the Salem Police force, and was promoted to detective in no time.
In 1994, Bo and Billie Reed attended a party thrown by Kristen DiMera in New Orleans at Maison Blanche. While there, Billie was haunted by woman who looked like Bo's dead wife Hope, but nobody believed her ramblings. When Maison Blanche blew up, Stefano, who was indeed holding Hope there, tried to escape with her. However, John Black, another one of his prisoners, managed to rescue Hope. Upon questioning, Hope could not recall who she was, only that her name was Gina.
Hope returned to Salem as Gina and began having flashbacks of Hope's life. Though DNA tests were run on Hope, they were inconclusive, and all dental and fingerprints of Hope's had been lost in a fire. Though Bo began to believe Gina was his wife, it was soon discovered that Celeste, Stefano's henchwoman, had been implanting Hope's memories into Gina's head. Believing she was not his dead wife, Bo and Billie reunited and were married.
Alice Horton was not ready to give up on Gina and was convinced that she was indeed her granddaughter. She gave Gina a puzzle box which only Hope and Tom Horton could open. Gina eventually opened the box, and inside was a letter which Hope wrote to Bo on their wedding night. Bo compared Hope's fingerprints, which were on the letter, to Gina's, and found that they were an exact match. Gina was finally proved to be Hope Williams Brady.
Hope eventually regained her memory while working as a cop, but Bo instead on remarrying Billie and asked Hope for a divorce. Hope consented, but Billie felt that Bo was not thinking clearly and decided to leave town so he could decide whether or not he really wanted to end his marriage to Hope.
Hope received her first undercover assignment posing as a bartender at a local club, whose owner was suspected of running an drug ring. The owner, Jude St. Clair, became infatuated with Hope and eventually kidnapped her after he rescued her from an avalanche. Everyone believed Hope had died in the avalanche, but Bo refused to give up and finally located and rescued Hope.
Hope and Bo soon became engaged and were supposed to marry in November of 1996, but their wedding would never happen. Hope was suspended from the force for botching a case, and she soon became a model at Titan to earn money. She was partnered with a young Italian model named Franco Kelly, who Bo believed was beating a young local woman. Franco was a con-man and was working for Kate Roberts, Billie Reed's mother. Kate had hired Franco to cause trouble for Bo and Hope and break the two of them up so that Billie and Bo could be together again. Billie returned to Salem shortly before Bo and Hope's wedding and pretended to be happy for Bo and Hope, though she secretly continued to love him. Franco sabotaged bo and Hope's wedding by arranging for Hope to find Bo and Billie at the Horton cabin on the day of their wedding, which led Hope to call off the wedding.
In 1997, Bo was assigned to a new case, bringing down the drug lord J.L. King. To bust him he had to pose as a cop on the take, and Billie accidentally become involved the case and was forced to pose as Bo's lover. In order to determine if Bo and Billie were really an item and could be trusted, J.L. King arranged for the two to be married. Bo and Billie went through with the wedding, which broke Hope's heart. When the case ended and Hope learned the truth, she rushed to Bo only to find him in Billie's arms. Bo believed that Hope was involved with Franco now, so he made a commitment to Billie. Later, Billie would become pregnant with Bo's child, widening the rift between Bo and Hope.
With Bo preoccupied with Billie, Hope decided to search for answers as to what happened to her during the four missing years of her life. She received a box of trinkets which belonged to Gina from Celeste, and one of the items was a mysterious compact with a "G" for Gina engraved on it. Hope's search lead her to New Orleans and out into the bayou where a mysterious Swamp Girl lived. Bo soon came to New Orleans to help Hope, and a pregnant Billie secretly followed them. In the bayou, Swamp Girl stole Hope's compact, and Bo and Hope were chased out of the bayou by a couple of locals. Meanwhile, Billie searched the bayou for Bo and Hope, but ended up miscarrying her child there. At the baby's funeral, Swamp Girl placed Hope's silver compact on Billie's daughter's grave, which Billie interpreted as a sign from God that her daughter would live on. Billie took the compact and returned to Salem.
Billie and Hope engaged in a fight upon meeting in Salem after their trips. Billie stormed off in anger and staged a car accident which she claimed caused her to miscarry her child. She blamed Hope for the death of her baby, as did Hope. Bo, however, blamed himself and decided to leave Salem for awhile.
While vacationing in New Orleans, John discovered a photo of Hope in the ruins of Maison Blanche. In the photo Hope was wearing a very expensive and old designer suit and was standing in front of a grand building. After researching the photograph, Hope and John traveled to Lugano, Switzerland and to the house of Lily Faversham, which was where the photograph was taken. Lily Faversham identified Hope as Princess Gina Von Amburg. She told Hope that they were very close, but many years ago she suddenly vanished from the dance floor of one of her grand balls, and she was never seen again until now. Hope, who had been pretending to be Princess Gina to gain information, eventually told Lily about her true identity and her dilemma. Lily, however, was positive that Hope was Princess Gina as she identified a royal birthmark on the back of Hope's head.
Hope and Lily Faversham planned to attend an art festival in Bulgaria in order for Hope to learn more about her life as Gina, but Stefano learned about Hope's investigation into her past and promptly put and end to it, warning her that it would bring her nothing but heartache. Hope would eventually return to Salem, but refused to stop searching for the truth.
While Hope was in Europe, Bo had returned to the bayou to find the Swamp Girl and bring her back to Salem. The Swamp Girl told Hope an interesting story. She was hired by Ernesto Toscano to impersonate her in the cage scene, which was believed to have killed Hope years earlier. Hope was never injured, but Greta was badly burned in the accident and hid in the bayou for years in order to hide her scarred face. She also told John Black and Hope that her true name was Greta Von Amburg, and she was the daughter of the real Princess Gina, who had died many years ago in Europe. Interestingly, Hope looked exactly like Princess Gina!
Thanks to Greta's arrival in Salem and Hope discovering that Billie had her compact, the truth about how Bo and Billie's daughter's death was revealed. Bo and Hope were finally free to be together once
again after Billie agreed to give Bo the divorce he requested. Unfortunately, Stefano DiMera would once again interfere with Bo and Hope's happiness. Vivian Alamain had acquired Stefano's priceless collection of Renets, which Gina had stolen and painted forgeries over, and she planned to give them away as she believed she was dying. Desperate to save his collection, Stefano turned Hope back into Gina so she could paint a new set of forgeries which he could switch with the paintings in Vivian's possession, thereby saving his own collection of Renets.
Gina continued to pose as Hope for months in order to do Stefano's bidding, but she also had her own plans. Years ago Stefano had paired Gina with John Black, and together the two stole countless works of art from across Europe for Stefano. However, he was unaware that the two fell in love and were planning to escape from him. Unfortunately, when Stefano sent John to the States in order to turn him into Roman Brady, Gina fell into a deep depression. No longer able to continue her work for him, Stefano turned Hope Williams into his new Gina so that she could continue to steal priceless Renet paintings for him. Finally reunited with John, Hope as Gina was determined to make him hers once again. Much to Gina's dismay, John no longer remembered her, and was engaged to marry Marlena Evans.
Upon Gina's finishing the forgeries and substituting them with the paintings in Vivian's possession, Stefano planned to return to Europe and have Gina steal the final Renet for him. However, Gina convinced Stefano that she could not do it alone, and she would need John to help her. Stefano and Gina concocted a plan to change the John back into the old John before he married Marlena, meet in Europe, and then pull off their greatest heist ever. However, Gina double-crossed Stefano by allowing John to marry Marlena and continue to Hawaii for his honeymoon. After the wedding, Gina wrote Bo a letter stating that she needed time to think, so she was going to Europe and he was not to follow her. Gina then headed to Hawaii where she kidnapped John during his honeymoon, turned him back into her old lover, and seduced him on board a submarine. Unfortunately, Stefano soon found them, turned John back into himself, and forced Gina to return to Europe with him in order to steal the final Renet.
Gina and Stefano arrived in France and prepared to steal the final Renet from its current owners, the Harrimans, during a grand ball they were throwing in Gina's honor. Unfortunately, Bo, who now knew the truth about Hope, arrived in Paris determined to save his Fancy Face. Stefano planned to take care of Bo by turning him into his new pawn, but Gina, who began to care for Bo, foiled Stefano's plans and managed to save Bo from a horrible fate.
Bo was pleased to be gaining Gina's trust, but he knew he had to reach Hope's spirit to save her. He did so with the help Doug and Julie Williams. Gina told Bo of Stefano's plan to steal the final Renet at the ball. Bo asked Gina to continue with Stefano's plan. However, once she gave the painting to Stefano, he would swoop in and arrest him. Gina agreed to go along with Bo's plan, but secretly she planned to let Stefano escape because she knew there was no way Stefano would let either of them live if she double-crossed him, plus Stefano was promising her her freedom if she accomplished this mission for him. She was unaware that he had no intention of honoring his promise.
Meanwhile, in a castle on the outskirts of Paris, the real Princess Gina was being held captive by Stefano's hired manservant, Kurt Schwengle. Time had not been kind to the real Gina as her youthful looks had long faded away. Her mind was also affected as she believed that John would be returning for her. Princess Gina's hopes were soon dashed when Kurt told her that John was dead.
Princess Gina's location was almost revealed when Greta arrived at the castle with Eric Brady in order to find out what really happened to her mother. Greta soon located her mother's grave and with John Black's help had it exhumed and the remains within autopsied. The autopsy revealed that the remains where those of her mother. Greta finally believed she had the answers she had been looking for, and she vowed to get revenge on Stefano, who she blamed for her mother's death. Gina soon learned her daughter was in her castle, but was crushed to learn that her daughter thought she was dead. Gina also vowed revenge on Stefano for taking her daughter and lover from her.
The Harrimans threw their ball in honor of Princess Gina in the summer of 1999, and anyone who was anyone was in attendance. Bo, Hope as Gina, Greta, Eric, Stefano, Kurt, and even the real Princess Gina posing as Kurt's step-mother Elsa where in attendance. At the ball Princess Gina was horrified to learn that a woman named Hope Williams was impersonating her, and she eventually realized that she was yet another one of Stefano's creations. She added Hope to her list of enemies and vowed revenge on her for stealing her life. As the party wound down, Hope as Gina faked a fainting spell so that the Harriman's would insists she spend the night with them. Once everyone was asleep, Hope snuck out of her room and stole the Renet from their gallery. She then hid the masterpiece and went to meet with Stefano.
After stealing the painting, Hope and the spirit of Princess Gina within her came face to face, and Hope finally vanquished Gina's spirit from her body. She also met up with Bo, who she wanted to return to Salem without her. She told him that she had a few things to finish up in Paris and would be home in a few days. Bo agreed to head home to Salem, which pleased Hope. Hope then went to meet Stefano and informed him that he would only get the final Renet after she had proof that Bo was safely home in Salem.
Hope returned to the cottage where she had been staying while in Paris and was shocked to come face to face with the real Princess Gina. Gina wanted revenge on Hope, but Hope convinced her to work with her so they could both get what they wanted. Gina was delighted to learn that her old lover, John Black, was very much alive in Salem. She agreed to work with Hope, but when she learned Hope wanted to turn Stefano into the ISA, Gina knocked Hope out and locked her in the turret where she had been imprisoned for so many years. Gina then retrieved the Renet from its hiding place and made arrangements to meet with Stefano. Stefano was of course shocked and horrified by the site of Princess Gina, who was not as crazy as he thought. Gina gave Stefano his Renet, but one he had it she set both him and the Renet on fire! Gina believed she had killed Stefano, but soon learned that he lived. She made arrangements to meet him on top of a bridge to finish him off, only to end up being knocked off the bridge by Stefano. When Kurt arrived at the bridge all the remained of Princess Gina was a piece of her torn dress which was clinging to the bridge's railing, which had broken when Gina fell to her death into the icy river below.
Believing Gina dead, Kurt did not care when Hope escaped the turret and into the nearby swamps. However, he soon got a call from Gina, who was alive and well and in Salem. Gina told Kurt that he did not need to know of her plans right now, only that he was to keep Hope locked in the turret. When he told her that she had escaped, she ordered him to find her. Kurt chased Hope down through the swamp of France and eventually found her floating unconscious in the water. Stefano and Rolfe had used their satellite to erase all of Hope's memories of Gina, but because the satellite was set at such a powerful frequency, it erased all of Hope's memories. Kurt and Hope were forced to hide out in a local fisherman's house from the police, who were on Hope's trail as she was wanted for questioning about the theft of the Harriman's Renet. Hope did not have any idea who she was, so Kurt lied to her and told her that they were married. When the police finally found them, the two fled and Kurt took Hope back to the castle where he claimed they lived. When Hope realized that Kurt had been lying to her about everything, she tried to escape, but Kurt caught her and imprisoned her in the turret. All of Hope's memories returned, but she was locked up tight and her chances of escaping were slim to none.
Back in Salem, Gina, who had undergone plastic surgery to regain her youthful looks, planned to impersonate Hope in order to win back John's love. However she soon realized that John was no longer the man she knew and loved, so she set her sites on Bo Brady instead. Gina planned to impersonate Hope and live the rest of her life with Bo, his son Shawn, and her daughter Greta. Gina eventually let Greta in on her true identity when she became suspicious of "Hope." Greta was thrilled to have her mother back, but asked where Hope was? Gina lied to her daughter and told her that Hope had committed suicide in Paris due to the fragile state she was in as a result of Stefano's manipulations. When Greta learned of her mother's plans to impersonate Hope, she was convinced her mother would be discovered, but agreed to keep quiet about what she knew.
Bo and "Hope" made arrangements to take a romantic trip out to Smith Island to the Horton cabin. Once there, the two made love. Afterwards, Bo realized that something was not right with "Hope." Gina, realizing that Bo sensed something was wrong, admitted to Bo that she knew something was different when they made love. Gina told Bo that she still did not feel complete, and that if they were to be married, they might be able to recapture their lost passions. Bo considered the idea and thought to himself that perhaps if they did marry, "Hope" would return to her old self.
Upon learning that Stefano was back in Salem, Gina decided to take care of some unfinished business. She dropped by the DiMera Mansion to see him and revealed her true identity to him. Stefano nearly killed her, but she made him a deal he could not refuse. She told him that she had not destroyed his Renet in Europe, but a forgery. She informed him that she still had the real Renet safely hidden, and it was his as long as he agreed to stay in Europe and allow her to live in Salem as Hope Williams. Stefano agreed to accompany Gina to Europe to retrieve his painting, but had no intention of staying there. Once he had his painting he planned to get rid of Princess Gina for good. However, Gina tricked Stefano and ended up locking him in the turret at the castle with Hope! After taking care of Stefano, Gina returned to Salem just in time to celebrate Christmas with her family.
Doug and Julie returned to Salem for Christmas 1999 and were reunited with "Hope," or so they thought. At the annual Horton tree trimming ceremony, Gina proposed marriage to Bo again, who happily accepted. Bo and Gina made the announcement to their friends and family that they planned to marry before the new year.
Character summary: Hope's parents died at an early age. Hope was left without a mother or father, so she began living with her grandmother, Alice Horton. Hope went out with Bo Brady for a long time while she was young. They fell in love and finally got married. However, they had a lot of problems staying together because of Stefano's vendetta against the Brady family. Kate and Billie also kept them apart. Stefano took Hope away from her life for four years. She was in a magic show and everyone thought she died when the cage fell into the flames and exploded. However, Hope was switched quickly with Greta, a girl Stefano got to suffer the accident. Bo and everyone believed that Hope was dead. However, she was really under Stefano's control and was transformed into Princess Gina, a princess in Europe that was killed. Stefano could not live without the princess, so Hope took her place and had all of the real Gina's memories implanted into her. Hope worked with her partner Father John, also know as John Black, to steal art masterpieces for Stefano in Europe, including Lily Faversham's collection. When the jobs were done, Stefano transformed 'Princess Gina' back into Hope. Bo had moved on. He fell in love with Billie and married her. When Hope came back, Bo did not believe it was the Hope he loved. She had amnesia, and could not remember her past. She thought her name was Gina. When Hope remembered and finally proved herself, Bo was ecstatic. They tried to get back together, but Kate hired Franco, an Italian model, to woo Hope so Billie could stay with Bo. Bo believed Hope was in love with Franco when they went out of the country, but she was only doing modeling work with him. Bo got back together with Billie, slept with her, and she conceived a child. Hope was upset when she found out. She finally found out that Billie lied about losing her baby. She thought she had a chance with Bo. Then Stefano had to turn her back into Gina to paint over the masterpieces that Vivian inherited from Jonesy.
Personal opinions: I wish Hope wouldn't have been turned into Gina because she and Bo belong together! But, it looks like she will go to Europe with Stefano and John as soon as he's turned into Father John. I can't stand her being so mean to Bo though. But more than likely she'll be turned back into Hope in the future in order to keep the story line interesting. I predict that Stefano will find out about Princess Gina loving John and have turn her back into the real Hope.
[Hope, who has just returned home, asks about Shawn]

Hope Brady: I haven't even met his roommate. What kind of name is Dozer anyway? Bo Brady: Dozer isn't his roommate anymore. It's Rex? Hope Brady: What kind of name is Rex? [Recognition dawns on her] Hope Brady: Wait, is that the Rex who is a genetically engineered human who was formerly an alien living in our garage? Bo Brady: Yep. Hope Brady: [sighing] Boy, I have a lot of catching up to do.

Hope Brady: Gran, I wonder if Shawn even knows about the wedding. Alice Grayson Horton: He saw my invitation, dear. Hope Brady: Did he say anything to you? Alice Grayson Horton: He was very hurt! Doug Williams: Why doesn't that bozo wize up and realize that Belle is the one he loves before it's too late? Julie Williams: Darling, please don't call your grandson a bozo! Doug Williams: What else do you call a man who allows the love of his life to marry another man? Alice Grayson Horton: [Jumping in] Doug Williams! [Pointing a finger at him matter-of-factly] Doug Williams: [Speechless at first] But I wised up eventually. Hope Brady: Oh Dad! Julie Williams: Oh, I think I'm gonna cry. Alice Grayson Horton: Well, that's what weddings are for, I suppose, to support the tissue industry. Julie Williams: No Grandma, not tears of joy... Belle is marrying the wrong guy, and everybody here knows it. Alice Grayson Horton: Maybe she won't marry Phillip after all.

Don't get me wrong, on a scale of 1-10 it was... right up there... but it definitely wasn't Hope. Hope/Gina: I really think there's something wrong with you, Bo. Bo Brady: With me. Hope/Gina: Yes, you, Bo "Everything Better Stay the Same or Else" Brady.

Nicole: [after Chloe's memorial service] Brady, It's been a hard day, we should go. Phillip: [Overhearing] We? [pause] Phillip: Chloe's not even buried yet and already you... Brady: Phillip please, please don't start this! Nicole just cares about me. Sami Brady: From the waist down! Brady: Sami, shut up!

Alice Grayson Horton: [to Marlena, asking about Jennifer, who is sleeping on the couch] How is she? Is my granddaughter going to be alright? Marlena: Well I hope so. What I said to Maggie is that she needs a big dose of good news about now. Hope Brady: [Walking in the door with Bo and Jack] Maybe we can help! Maggie Horton: [everyone gasps] Oh my gosh! Jack: Jennifer Jack: [Jennifer slowly opens her eyes] Jennifer Jennifer Rose Horton Deveraux: Jack? Jack: Jennifer! Jennifer Rose Horton Deveraux: [crying] Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! It is you! You came back to me! You're alive! Jack: Yeah, sorry I'm a little late, but I made it [Bo helps him to the couch] Jack: with a little help from my friends [He sits on the couch and embraces Jennifer] Jennifer Rose Horton Deveraux: Oh! Oh! Oh! I can't believe they found you! Jack: I can't believe you made it yourself! Jennifer Rose Horton Deveraux: Oh, it feels so good to hold you Jack! I thought I lost you forever. Jack: I thought I lost you. [they kiss] Jack: [looking down at Jennifer's belly] Wait a minute, where's the baby? where's the baby? where's the baby? what happened to the baby? Jennifer Rose Horton Deveraux: Listen to me, the baby, he is... he is fine. He's perfect. Jack: He's fine? Good. He's fine? [suddenly realizing the baby is a boy] Jack: He's a he. He's a he. We had a he! We had a he! [everyone laughing] Jennifer Rose Horton Deveraux: We had a he! Jack: We had a he! Where is he? I wanna see my boy! We had a he! I had a he! Jennifer Rose Horton Deveraux: It's time you meet him Jack! Maggie Horton: [bringing the baby to them] He's anxious to meet his daddy. Jennifer Rose Horton Deveraux: Oh Jack! Jack: Oh there he is! [taking him into his arms] Jack: Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Jack: [pause... baby crying] He looks just like... WE! [everyone laughing] Jack: [they kiss] Oh, baby!
Bo Brady: Hold on. Just out of curiosity, have you logged any flight time in a jalopy like this? John Black: It's been a couple years. Of course, the last time I flew, it didn't have as many doohickeys and gadgets, but that's a minor detail. Bo Brady: Doohickeys and - I'm glad to see you're well-versed in the technical terms. I'm full of confidence. Not.
